Criminal Justice & Legal Aid
The criminal justice system in India consists of laws, law enforcement agencies, judiciary, and correctional institutions that work together to ensure justice, punish offenders, and protect citizens’ rights. It operates on the principle that “justice delayed is justice denied,” yet delays, corruption, and lack of access to legal aid remain major challenges.
Legal aid refers to providing free legal services to people who cannot afford representation in courts. The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) ensures that underprivileged individuals receive fair legal support under Article 39A of the Indian Constitution.
